National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)

NEET (UG) is an annual All India Common Entrance Examination for Under-graduate Medical aspirants. The exam is conducted by CBSE for the admission in 15% All India Quota Seats of MBBS & BDS in almost all Medical & Dental Colleges of India except AIIMS & JIPMER. States will also fill their State quota Seats based on NEET Score from NEET-2017.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET-UG

  • The Candidate must have completed the Minimum age of 17 Years by 31st December of Exam year. There is no Upper age criteria.
  • The Candidate who is appearing in Class XII Board exam or should have passed the higher secondary examination or equivalent of 10+2 Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Mathematics or any other elective.
  • A candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and a minimum of 50% marks taken together in PCB. For SC/ST/OBC Candidates this % would be 40%.

Pattern of NEET

  • It is an Offline (Pen & Paper based) test in which total 180 Single response type Questions are asked in 3 hrs. 45 Questions are from Physics, 45 from Chemistry & 90 from Biology.
  • 4 Marks are awarded for every correct answer & –1 for wrong answer, 0 for not attempting the question.
  • Candidate can opt for question paper in English, Hindi or few other Regional languages.

NEET-2016 : Few Facts

  • Total 802594 Student registered for NEET-2016 out of which 731223 Students (393642 Girls & 337572 Boys) appeared.
  • 19325 Students were called for the Counseling of 15% All India Quota Seats for around 4000 available seats.
  • Cut Off Score : GENERAL : 468 Marks (Total Students 14315), OBC : 465 Marks (Total Students 230), SC : 352 Marks (Total Students 2815), ST : 303 Marks (Total Students 1427) and General (PwD) : 214 Marks (430 Students).


All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)

AIIMS is one of the Most esteemed Medical Institute in India for Medical Studies. The Institute aims to provide high quality medical education. For the admission in MBBS Course of AIIMS, it conducts an Online Objective type Entrance Exam.

From the Academic Session 2017-18, there will be 100 Seats in AIIMS, New Delhi. 6 New AIIMS (Bhopal, Jodhpur, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Rishikesh & Raipur) were started in 2012-13. All of these colleges now has 100 seats each. So the Total Seats in 7 AIIMS are 700. Out of this, 350 are unreserved, 189 are reserved for OBC, 105 for SC & 56 for ST. In the upcoming years, New AIIMS are proposed in Jammu & Kashmir (2), Uttar Pradesh (2), Punjab, Assam, Tamilnadu, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat & Maharashtra (1 Each).

The exam is of 3.5 Hours in which 200 questions are asked of 200 Marks. 60 Questions are of Physics, 60 from Chemistry & 60 of Biology. 10 Questions are from General Knowledge & 10 from Aptitude & Logical Thinking. +1 Mark is given for correct answer while One third (1/3) mark is deducted on wrong answer.

The cut off score to be declared as qualified in AIIMS is 50% Marks for General, 45% for OBC, 40% for SC & ST.

  • Total 189357 Students appeared in the test out of which 7137 were declared qualified while 2236 Students were called for the counseling.


Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & research (JIPMER)

JIPMER College is located in Puducherry. The Institute conducts Online Objective Entrance Test for the 200 Seats (150 of Puducherry Campus & 50 of Karaikal Campus). Registration for the exam normally starts in March & the exam is conducted in June. Exam is conducted only in English Medium & there is NO negative marking in this exam. Total 200 Questions (60 each from Physics, Chemistry & Biology and 10 each from English & Logical reasoning) are asked int he paper.

Eligibility : 50% Marks in Class XII for General Category & 40% for OBC, SC, ST & PH Categories.
